I AM TRUSTWORTHY

I recently had an unforgettable weekend with family. What a loving and compassionate Father we have who bestows blessing, joy, and opportunities on His children! My then, family-of-four, booked a weekend getaway to Crystal Beach with my older brother and his lovely family, paternal grandparents, an aunt, an uncle, and some of our first cousins as well.

It was delightful to see them all, some of whom I hadn’t seen in at least eight years! On a chilly and windy Saturday afternoon, we made our way to the sandy beach. We allowed the children to feel the sand beneath their toes and race into the persistent waves of the powerful ocean. The cold water and wind did not stop the kids from fulfilling their wonder and curiosity for God’s majestic and incredible creation. They ran with abandon and leapt into the sea’s shore as happy as little clams!

As my sister-in-love-Mistie, brother, and I noticed a few sea gulls standing nearby, we too were pulled with curiosity of God’s creation. Mistie wanted to see how close the birds would come to her if she enticed their bellies with a little food. If she held out a piece of crust, would they come close enough to take it straight from her hand? The question loomed and we encouraged her to draw them near. So, the mission began!

Many minutes flew by with Mistie holding a small piece of bread crust into the air. The sea gulls were too timid to come close enough to snatch the bread straight from her hand. Patiently, Mistie held the crust upward as the sea gulls squawked louder and louder as if beckoning her to just go ahead and toss the food into the air! It was clear that they did not trust they were out of harm’s way.

All of a sudden, Mistie loudly proclaimed, “I am trustworthy!” and a second time, “I am trustworthy!”. With not but a few seconds passing, a brave sea gull swooped down and seized the bread crust right from her hand- well, almost. Mistie let go, and it received its reward mid-air. She realized it trusted her, and that was good enough! Question answered!

What a beautiful and eternal picture the Lord painted for me that day! My heavenly Father loudly proclaims to me, “I AM trustworthy!”. His true and living Word assures me that He is faithful to provide for all of my needs and if I make my shelter under His wings, I will be protected from the pestilence and darkness of life on this side of heaven (Psalm 91).

Psalm 91:2-4 (NIV) says, "I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.” Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart."

The sea gull responded to Mistie’s spoken word of who she was- trustworthy! Oh, for the grace, that I would be as trusting and yielding as that sea gull to my Heavenly Father! He is the Word made flesh- and He beckons me to trust Him. He held the Bread of Heaven upward in His mighty hand for all to partake of and feast on, so that we may become Sons and Daughters of an eternal inheritance and an unshakable kingdom! It is a place where weeping, thirst, and hunger will be no more (Revelation 21)! We will feast and recline with Him at His banqueting table that He has so lavishly prepared for all who put their trust in the Faithful One (John 14)! He is Trustworthy!

Would you trust Him and give your whole heart to Him now (Romans 10:9)? Oh, how He loves you!

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him.

John 3:16-17 (NIV)
